A Computing Revolution - Guernsey Event

Although the computer industry is often guilty of over-hyping new technology, every dozen years or so an innovation appears that changes the way we work. In the 1980’s there was the advent of the Personal Computer, followed by the Internet and mobile phone revolution in the 1990’s. Now it’s the turn of Cloud Computing.
At this thought leadership event, Itex and Sun Microsystems will define Cloud Computing in layman’s terms and address some of the key questions that will confront every organisation:

  • What (the heck) is Cloud Computing and why does it matter?
  • Will it benefit my  department or business and how will it impact the IT function?
  • What are the applications of Cloud Computing, today and in the future?
  • What will it mean for small niche jurisdictions such as Guernsey?
  • What is the role of Government in facilitating the new computing environment?

The keynote speaker is Wayne Horkan, Chief Technology Officer (UK & Ireland), Sun Microsystems – the company credited with inventing the network computer and now a leading proponent of Cloud Computing. Passionate about technology and innovation, Wayne champions a number of major initiatives in the field of large scale and complex computing at Sun, including Cloud Computing initiatives. He holds positions on the CBI’s Innovation, Science and Technology (IST) working group, as well as with PITCOM and EURIM, and is a Chartered Fellow of the BCS, a Fellow of the IoD and a Senior Member of the IEEE.
